Former Hickory Schools employee convicted of sex crimes with minor
A former Hickory City Schools employee was convicted and sentenced Tuesday on sex crime charges involving a minor.
Quentin Teount Abernathy, 31, of Hickory, was convicted of felony first degree kidnapping and felony indecent liberties with a child in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court.
The crimes occurred in January of 2011 in the City of Hickory. At that time, Abernathy was an employee of the Hickory City Schools. The victim, who was under the age of 16, was a student at Hickory High School.
Abernathy was sentenced to no less than 83 months and no more than 109 months in the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction.
Upon his release, Abernathy was also ordered to register with the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry and to be subjected to satellite-based monitoring for a period of 30 years.
Abernathy will be transported to the Division of Adult Correction for processing.
